Galena Illinois is a gorgeous, green hilly part of Illinois. It was a tease being so close to home but still three hours from home. This event was a Junior all star, which means that 12-15 year olds are the ones competing in the event. The course was pretty, but difficult for the youngsters with the tight fairways and hilly set up. The worst part of the course was all the gnats and mesquites otherwise it was really quite pretty.
We had an amazing cookout at this event, which is an event we will put on at some tournaments for the juniors that gives them an opportunity to enjoy socializing over a meal and games. The cookout was under this tent that over looked the water, and the weather at that time of night was perfect. I wish i had a better picture of it. (this was a long day; starting at 6am and not finishing until 8pm/after the cookout BUT being able to end the day like that was ideal)
The coolest part of this week was sharing a cottage with Lauren, Zach and Ben. Yes they actually trusted us to share a house, and I still have no idea why. My early morning whining was quickly stopped when I'd see my house mates doing something random or funny in the kitchen. Since we were all of age in this house some nights possibly were spent enjoying adult beverages playing bizare/made up games with quarters.
This week we got Blair, Danika and Ben from team 3. They were fun to have around because we got to work with other people and hear their stories from the summer. Our tournament director AJ and assistant tournament direct Greenie were awesome as well. For dinners Greenie would grill at our place, which was a great change up from always eating out.
The day off:
My day off was spent with Lauren, which was perfect. We went around the resort, which has a huge lake behind it. We rented a paddle boat and spent a few hours just relaxing on water. We made a video for Ben because we were just feeling goofy.
Despite another long week of working 6am to 4pm or 7pm we still made time to have a little fun on the side.
