June 20-23rd- Cleveland Junior Open

Red Tail Golf Club - Avon, OH

Cleveland was one of my personal favorite courses we went to. The houses on the course were all big and beautiful, the people were nice and the course had a sweet layout and was in great condition. Chip was our main contact for the week as far as planning and coordinating with us. He was a great host!

Lauren and I roomed together with a British host family. The Huges were a funny and awesome hosts. They had 5 dogs! and always invited us to have the crew over. We took them up on this offer a few times. One night we had everyone over to hangout in the basement (Zach played our host dad in a game of ping pong)
and another night we played basketball.

We stayed on hole #15 and Laurens room had a great balcony where we spent some night just hanging out and relaxing. (loved our balcony!!)

The qualifier round (a one day event in the beginning of the tournament where kids get a chance to qualify for the 3-day tournament) was a long day. It rained alot! and i forgot my rain gear! (Aaron also forgot his rain gear)

Scott from team 1 came and joined us at this tournament. He was a blast to have around and a huge help... sometimes when a team doesn't have a tournament to go to they will split and join other teams.

Scott and Zach hanging out in their cart

We had a 2 hour delay and at 8pm (when it ended in the pouring rain) we didn't get back until 10pm. and had to wake up at 5am the next day to set up the Junior Am.

There were other rainy days that week, which makes for long days because of the delays. But one day I got to sit in the cart barn and watch Thor (our lighting detector) and I saw it get to the highest level- 9.9!

the social activity for this week was fun because a lot of kids participated and they paired up with a junior from the First Tee of Cleveland. (it was a skills challenge with partners)

Sunday

June 14 – 17 - NRP Bluegrass Junior

Bellefonte Country Club – Ashland, KY

It took us about 10 hours to drive from the Quad cities to Ashland Kentucky.

Driving days are fun for the most part because we get to rest, relax and just chat with eachother. We were given two cars for the summer, one big van called Smokey and a truck that pull the trailer (full of tournament inventory) called McGrubber.

When we got to the course we all given our private housing assignments. Shelby and I stayed with a couple that belongs to the course. They were very sweet people who went out of their way to make sure Shelby and I felt at home. Below is a picture of my room! It was so cute.

Setting up for this tournament took longer then most because of all the tournament banners we had to put out. This tournament is the longest existing, and because of the history the event at this course in the middle of a small town we were treated like celebs. Everyday in the paper there was a story about the event, which was crazy to see and be apart of.

Hole No. 15 in my opinion was the prettiest hole at the course.

Our sponsor NRP paid for a group of interns to play in the Junior Am, which is our fundraiser event we put on usually the day before the tournament begins. We played with 2 juniors from the tournament (in the striped short and black shirt).

During course breakdown we load our carts with whatever can fit and bring it back to the trailer. In the picture below Sam (the tournament assistant) is coming in with a packed cart.

Sometimes to make work fun we invent games. In the picture below Lauren and I played a gam against Sam and Shelby to see who could fit more cases of water in their cart (but both people must be able to fit in the cart as well) We fit 27!

The Day off:

Aaron, Josh and I had the day off together. We decided to go visit Marshall University where the movie ‘We are Marshall’ was based. Every week we get one day off, but the tournament chooses when and with who.
